Northern Marine welcomes new £66m Nautical Campus

Northern Marine cadets will benefit from the opening of a £66 million nautical campus in Glasgow.

The City of Glasgow College Riverside Campus, located on the banks of the River Clyde, was opened on 26 October by Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland First Minister.
As part of their Northern Marine Cadetship, trainees will access the new state-of-the art learning facilities which include a marine engineering workshop and campus halls of residence.
The company has currently over 60 cadets enrolled in the college, split evenly between engine and deck courses.
Senior Northern Marine staff members attended the opening alongside a group of cadets.
Ian Hampton, Northern Marine Group HR Director welcomed the opening.
He said: “Northern Marine shares City of Glasgow College’s objective to continually raise the quality and standards of maritime education.
“Our valued partnership with the college is long standing and we will continue to work together to offer a first class learning experience for future seafarers.”
Northern Marine’s training centre in Clydebank offers a full range of deck and engine training courses featuring the latest deck and engine room simulation facilities.
Thomas Campbell, NMMS Fleet Training and Cadets Manager (pictured left) added: “The opening of City of Glasgow College’s new Riverside Campus complements our own state-of-the-art maritime training facilities in Clydebank and further builds on the access Northern Marine’s cadets have to the best training, equipment and facilities in the world.
“It is vital this investment is made to ensure the future success of the British shipping industry, and further emphasises Glasgow’s status as a world leading maritime city.
“Northern Marine only operates in partnership with leading maritime training institutes, including the City of Glasgow College, to ensure we are delivering highly educated, qualified and competent seafarers to meet our needs as ship managers.”
