Global Safety Training

4th Mar 2019

As part of Northern Marine’s commitment to the highest standards of safety; seafarers on two continents participated in onshore interactive learning seminars during the month of February.

The safety seminars, conducted in Glasgow and Mumbai, welcomed ratings and officers of various ranks working on the Company’s managed fleet of vessels.

Each seminar included interactive learning exercises conducted by Northern Marine’s highly experienced Fleet Safety Specialists, as well as presentations from - and discussions with - onshore management.

Participating seafarers were also given the opportunity to give their opinion on the Company’s Safety Culture via anonymous survey.

Through both sets of seminar survey results, seafarers rated Northern Marine as a “Proactive” company in which “Safety leadership and values drive continuous improvement."

Ko Ko Naing, Head of HSEQ, attended both events and was very pleased with the levels of interaction and engagement from participants.

He said: “If the safety culture in an organisation or on a ship is to be effective, then employees must want to make a difference and believe their behaviours make a difference for others.

“Our seafarers must always be alert when onboard, and fully understand the safety expectations placed upon them.

“Our Safety Week seminars help in achieving these goals, and although the events have been ongoing for a number of years, they are continually evolving to ensure engagement and digestion of our key safety messages."

Safety seminars will continue to run throughout the year in Northern Marine’s global network of offices.
